POSITION SUMMARY
As a Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider, the employed provider performs a wide variety of duties and responsibilities in a manner that places emphasis on quality of care and customer service. The incumbent must work collaboratively with all Clinical services staff to provide patient services as directed. All MLA Providers must exemplify the core values and mission of the organization, always exercising utmost discretion, diplomacy and tact in patient/staff interactions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Complete admission history, physical examination and orders in a timely manner for all patients admitted to the ICU during their 12 hr shift.
Discuss all admissions with team and formulate a plan of care on all ICU patients admitted during their shift as well as on patients that are unstable in the unit.
Review and treat labs, culture results, imaging studies and other clinical data resulted during their shift.
Update problem list on all patients admitted to the intensive care unit and intermediate care unit.
Input Apache data on all intensive care unit patients.
Complete discharge summaries on ICU patients that are discharged, transferred to other facilities or died during their shift.
Complete pronouncement notes and death certificates on patients that have died during their shift.
Have their shift schedule request submitted to the responsible party 4 months in advance.
Sign out directly to ICU attending at the end of their shift on every patient that is unstable and it is anticipated that the patients will or may require urgent attention or procedures.
The Provider's duties shall include providing direct patient care and administrative duties at the Practice, as required.
The Provider will assure that all of the medical needs of patients are met in a competent, timely and responsive manner.
The Provider is employed to perform services at such locations as are assigned to Provider from time to time, following reasonable consultation with the Provider.
Shall abide by the rules, regulations, policies and directives of MLA.
Shall at all times render services to patients in a competent, professional and ethical manner, in accordance with prevailing standards of medical practice, and in compliance with all applicable statutes, regulations, rules, orders and directives of any and all applicable governmental and regulatory bodies having competent jurisdiction.
Shall, in connection with the provision of professional services to patients, use the equipment, instruments, pharmaceuticals and supplies furnished for the purposes for which they are customarily used and in a manner consistent with sound medical practice.
Shall complete and maintain, in a timely manner, adequate, legible and proper medical records with respect to all services rendered to patients of the Corporation.
Shall participate in Medicare, Medicaid, other federal and state reimbursement programs, the payment plan of any commercial insurer, health maintenance organization, preferred provider organization, or other health benefit program with which the Corporation may contract or affiliate, and the Provider has not been suspended or excluded from participating in any such program or been rendered a "Sanctioned Person" or "Ineligible Person" under applicable Federal law.
Shall participate in and support the efforts of recruiting patients and shall at all times act in the best interests of MLA.
QUALIFICATIONS
Is duly licensed and registered, and in good standing under the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to engage in the practice of medicine, and that said license and registration has not been suspended, revoked or restricted in any manner or subject to any disciplinary action
Has current controlled substances registrations issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, which registrations have not been surrendered, suspended, revoked or restricted in any manner
Is able to perform the essential functions of the practice of medicine
Has disclosed and will disclose the following matters: malpractice suit, claim or settlement; any professional review investigation; any criminal convictions; any allegation of filing false claims or violating anit-kickback statues; any use of illegal drugs or dependency on alcohol or controlled substances; any allegation or violation of professional ethics and standards; any denial or withdrawal of application for licensure or malpractice insurance
Is qualified for and has applied, or will apply for, and has obtained, or will obtain membership in good standing on the medical staff of UMASS Memorial Medical Center, HealthAlliance Hospital, Emerson Hospital, Marlborough Hospital and any other hospital that the Corporation may designate from time to time
Has disclosed and will disclose the existence of (i) all student loans or federal scholarships with the United States pursuant to the National Health Service Corps Scholarship Program, the Physician Shortage Area Scholarship Program or the Health Education Assistance Loan Program (together, "student loans"); (ii) any default or notice of default by Physician of a student loan; (iii) any repayment agreement between Physician and the Secretary of Health and Human Services entered into because of a default on a student loan ("Repayment Agreement") and (iv) any default or notice of default on a Repayment Agreement
