Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience. Preferred Experience: Desire to be a part of a dynamic oncology nursing team specializing in chemotherapeutics and other advanced medical nursing skills required Minimum 1-2 years RN medical/surgical experience preferred Demonstrated ability to make sound clinical decisions required Demonstrated dependability and flexibility required ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certification Provider Card preferred Chemotherapy/immunotherapy administration experience preferred Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN®) preferred Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires long periods of continued standing (1-3 hours), stooping, sitting, bending; pulling and pushing up to 50 lbs. Ability to wear protective attire (lead aprons and eye ware). Transferring patients and objects may be required. Mechanical inpatient lifts are provided. ["Major Duties Include: Delivers oncology nursing care to patients undergoing treatment for oncological and hematological disease Provides the safe delivery of IV chemotherapeutic medications, parental chemotherapy, biotherapy and hormonal therapy Provides for the safe delivery of supportive infusion therapy of drugs and blood products Responsible for the maintenance of vascular access devices and for the proper use of infusion pumps Serves a key role in assessing and managing the patients pain control and palliative care plans The 4West RN provides both team and individualized patient and family care Uses professional judgment and critical thinking in the delivery of care in accordance with established standards, hospital policies and procedures, and consistent with the plan of care Monitors patients, interprets data, recognizes abnormalities and intervenes with appropriate nursing measures Assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of nursing care for patients Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to facilitate positive patient care outcomes Recognizes emergency situations and demonstrates effective actions Accountable for meeting and maintaining the qualification standards and functional statements of assigned grade and step Directs and delegates support personnel in implementing patient's plan of care, provides supervision and guidance, and demonstrates methods, as necessary, to correct deviation from established standards Successful completion of chemotherapy/immunotherapy hospital sponsored course and competency is required within 6 months of hire Work Schedule: Hiring for 12-hour day shift and 12-hour night shift for this 24/7 unit\nRecruitment/Relocation Incentive: may be authorized for highly qualified candidates\nFinancial Disclosure Report: Not required"]
