Student Nurse Extern – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Nemours is seeking 2020 Nursing Grads to join our NICU Team in the Student Nurse Extern (SNE) role. This position is casual part time, working at minimum 1 shift per week.
The SNE role is responsible for assisting with general unit workflow and performing patient care activities under the direction and guidance of a Registered Nurse. Ideal candidates should have a passion for NICU nursing, as this position enhances preparation for the NICU Nurse Residency Program upon graduation.
As Delaware’s only Level IV NICU, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children provides care for the most critically ill infants. Our patients require a full spectrum of complex medical and surgical management, including the state’s only neonatal extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) center. At the heart of our neonatal care team, our NICU nurses provide care to neonates of varying diagnoses, including extreme prematurity, as well as illnesses of the respiratory, cardiac, neurologic, gastrointestinal, renal/urologic, skeletal, and metabolic systems.
The NICU currently provides care for up to 32 patients in our state of the art, single-patient room unit. Implementation of an Advanced Delivery Program in Fall 2019 will enhance services for neonates with known congenital anomalies.
